What happens at Slingmeet?

What happens at Leicester Slingmeet?
Our group has been set up to provide support and teaching for babywearers, or those interested in babywearing. Slingmeets offer caregivers and children the chance to meet up and share their knowledge of and passion for babywearing, test drive babycarriers, and learn new tips/tricks for enhancing use of their sling.

Monthly Slingmeet:
The monthly meet is an informal mix of socialising, demonstrations and learning. Each month we will have a natter with others about most things parenting - with a common topic of the challenges of wearing babies at different ages/stages and the benefits of different types of babycarriers/slings at each stage. More experienced wearers are available for demonstrating slings for newcomers to babywearing, and all have the opportunity to get to grips with a new babycarrier/carry, or to improve and perfect our favourites, alongside those who can offer help/suggestion, or just an extra set of eyes :o)
The point of these meetings are to promote safe babywearing, share tips and tricks, and help newer wearers to carry their babies easily and comfortably. Any aspects of babywearing and related parenting issues are welcome for discussion, all members are encouraged to share individual experiences, offering advice and help. These are the times to grab someone to answer your questions!

Weekend social:
Mid month meets are on the weekend, so that those who can't make the Thursday meets could come along. Also a great opportunity to bring Dads and other family members along to have a go at babywearing. Just a relaxed afternoon to visit one of the family friendly places in our city: City farm, museums, parks - anywhere we can think of that would be even more fun with a sling! These days out will give us all another chance to get out to do some public babywearing en masse - at all the places buggies become a nightmare and babycarriers can shine =)
Usually the second Saturday afternoon of the month.

Promoting babywearing:
A bit of advocacy/teaching. Hoping to hit antenatal groups, birth centres, sure start groups, mums and babies groups. Anywhere you think could benefit from a visit from a babywearer or two! We are happy to come along and demonstrate various styles of babycarriers.

Sling Pool/Resources:
Our pool of donated slings and babycarriers has been born! We've received some wonderful donations which will be made available to all who wish to try them.
Also soon available for download will be posters and business cards with TBW/Slingmeet details info...
